2018 Livingston County Grant Recipients

Congratulations to this year’s Decentralization grant winners! We appreciate all of your hard work in our community and your dedication to arts and culture.





The Arc of Livingston Wyoming – A Different Point of View: Giving Individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities the ability to show their point of view of the world through the art of photography.

Avon Community Theater – Summer theatre camp for kids which concludes with a musical production.

Avon Free Library – Explore various music and art media based upon the New York State Summer Reading Theme.

Dansville ArtWorks INC. – Performing Arts Series: Ten-month series of performing arts events on the fourth Friday of each month (February-November), including two performing arts special events: Chalk Walk & ArtsFest (8/4) and visiting poet Sean Thomas Dougherty (6/8).

Dansville ArtWorks Inc. & Chris Riedel – Libraries Rock: Stories from many countries that support the summer reading theme of “Libraries Rock” (music) will be told at the eight Livingston County libraries.

Dansville ArtWorks Inc. – Fairy Doors of Dansville: A public art installation of fairy doors appealing to all age levels, aimed at stimulating imagination and creativity by providing maps to guide the public to each location, while also periodically offering free art activities, storytelling, and other activities tied in with this theme.

Friends of the Lima Public Library – Firefly in July: A one-month children’s program that teaches uplifting, mindful, nature-based songs, stories, and crafts with the aim of helping little ones learn to shine bright lights in the world.

Geneseo Community Players – Summer Musical theatre production utilizing local talent, during the summer of 2018.

Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation – Clay on Wheels: Participants will have the opportunity to express themselves artistically and create unique works of art using clay and glazes and pre-formed bisque ware.

Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation – Senior GLEE CLUB: Providing an active, inclusive, enjoyable and accessible musical outlet for senior citizens (persons of 60 or more years) using choral singing to improve the quality of life.We welcome senior singers of all ability and experience levels. “Even if you have to carry a tune in a bucket, you are welcome to join us!”

Nunda Historical Society – History Days: A two-day celebration of the Village of Nunda’s rich history through demonstrations, exhibits, and speakers that will be offered to students at Keshequa Central School, area home schooled students, and interested adults.

Town of Geneseo – Fiddler’s Picnic: A day-long musical showcase featuring performances of old-time county, folk, and other home-spun, traditional styles of song.

Town of Geneseo/ Good Neighbor Committee of Geneseo – Keyboard Kamp: Community resources provide music lessons and mentoring situations for children who may or may not otherwise have such opportunities.

Town of West Sparta- Once a month in June, July, and August we will present a free musical performance in our new town picnic pavilion with audience members encouraged to bring a picnic supper to enjoy while they listen to live music

Village of Leicester – Gabezo Concert Series in the Village Park, June-September.

Wadsworth Library – Summer Reading: A series of musical programs for adults in Wadsworth Library, one
evening per month for four months, and one children’s musical program during the 2018 Summer Reading program.







Mike Carroll: Noborigama Wood-Firing Experience

This will be a woodfiring experience open to Livingston County High School Students –  from the construction of the pots and sculptures, glazing and surfacing, to the loading and firing the Noborigama wood-fired kiln at my studio


Ruth Henry: Bombs and Blooms: writing and performance of a one-act musical play based on original diaries from a WW2
Bomber Pilot (a florist by trade) who completed 23 bombing missions over Europe but lost 2 crews; he alone survived.

Based on original logs, interviews and research, Bombs and Blooms will tell the story of a young army enlistee who quickly
rises through the bureaucracy to command his own squadron and complete 23 daring and deadly bombing missions in the
European Theater during WW2. Counterpoint to the battles, the story will include the contrast of the hero’s home life and
career as a florist before and after the war. The script will be enhanced with 6 original songs, scored with a lead sheet
(melody line and chords) as well as period music. Members of the Livingston County community will be auditioned to
present a public staged reading in the hanger of The National Warplane Museum, with a B-17 in the background.




Ted Canning/York & Dansville Central School – 

As part of a comprehensive and cross-curricular Latin American Studies Unit, teaching Artist Ted Canning will lead the 5th
grade students in an exploration of the history and culture of Caribbean populations (British, French, and African
influences) through the music of the Trinidadian Steelband, culminating with two concerts on full-sized genuine Steel
Drums and African drums.

Jesse Sprinkle/ Avon School District – 

Through the use of music, we will be developing and implementing a program focused on positive social skills and non-violence with a focus on anti-bullying.
